NFI raises over $378,000 through annual United Way campaign; supporting 19 communities across North America in the most challenging year yet

November 16, 2020 NFI Group

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – November 16, 2020: (TSX: NFI) NFI Group Inc. (“NFI”), one of the world’s leading providers of mass mobility, today announced that its annual United Way Workplace Campaign raised $378,700 – surpassing its goal by 10% and continuing NFI’s commitment to supporting communities.

To date, NFI has raised $2.8 million for United Way agencies since 2009.

The campaign was again championed by employees across North America, with MCI Director of Human Resources Michelle Whyard as Campaign Chair and teams participating from NFI subsidiaries New Flyer, MCI, ARBOC, NFI Parts, Carfair Composites, KMG, and Alexander Dennis, all raising funds through individual, team challenge, and virtual giving.

“This has by far been the most challenging year for fundraising across the board, with a global pandemic and economic recession creating a tough reality that at times felt like an uphill battle – but our team dug deep. Together, we rallied to raise precious dollars that will provide critical and basic supports to so many in need in our communities,” said Janice Harper, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, NFI. “As a driving value of our organization, supporting our communities continues to provide a path that brings us together. At NFI, we exist to move people – millions of them around the world every day – but we do so with great care and consideration for what life looks like at the final destination. This year has been unlike any other, and we must continue doing what we can to lift our communities when and where they need it most.”

NFI’s 2020 campaign supported 19 different United Way agencies across the U.S. and Canada, located in or nearby communities where NFI has facilities, including:

  • Inland Empire United Way (Rancho Cucamonga, CA)
  • Metro United Way (Louisville, KY)
  • Renfrew County United Way (Pembroke, ON)
  • Tri-County Area United Way (Marinette, WI)
  • United Way Bay Area (San Francisco, CA)
  • United Way Fresno & Madera Counties (Fresno, CA)
  • United Way Greater Toronto (Toronto, ON)
  • United Way Montréal (Montréal, QC)
  • United Way of Central Minnesota (St. Cloud, MN)
  • United Way of Crookston (Crookston, MN)
  • United Way of Delaware County (Delaware, OH)
  • United Way of East Central Alabama (Anniston, AL)
  • United Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Area (Pembina, ND)
  • United Way of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey (Philadelphia, PA)

  • United Way of Metropolitan Chicago (Chicago, IL)
  • United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (Dallas, TX)
  • United Way of Southern Chautauqua County (Jamestown, NY)
  • United Way Winnipeg (Winnipeg, MB)

“This year, three out of every five people on our team chose to support United Way. Despite all we faced together, we knew helping those with the greatest need for basic social supports right now was the right thing to do for our communities – because every person deserves stability and wellness,” said Michelle Whyard, Director, Human Resources, MCI. “It is remarkable to have surpassed our United Way campaign goal at such a challenging time. Though we could not gather as we normally do, our team’s resilience shone through in building more inclusive communities, and we are tremendously proud of our team’s generosity, courage, and kindness in contributing nearly $400,000 back into the places we call home.”

NFI supports over 50 different charitable organizations, and each year invests hundreds of hours back into communities through voluntarism. One initiative includes NFI’s onsite Garden of Giving, which this year harvested over 300 pounds of fresh produce for Siloam Mission, a local nonprofit helping those experiencing homelessness to transition to new opportunities.
